“For this very night there stood before me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.” (Acts 27:23-25)

I was recently talking to some friends about faith and how it involves some type of action on our part. Sometimes you might have to take steps of faith towards an unknown place, like Abraham, because God had called you there. Other times, as in the passage above, you might have to speak about hope and encourage others in the midst of a dreadful storm, because God had told you all will turn out well. What caught my eye in this story though, is that in the middle of a storm that threatened his life and the lives of those on the ship, Paul did not waver in his faith. He knew whom he belonged to, he knew who he worshiped, and he had faith in God and His word. And if we read the rest of the passage we will see that God fulfilled what He had said.

There are many other stories of faith listed in the Bible besides this one. And even today, there are many other stories of faith being written. God is calling us to have faith in Him, to believe His word, and take a step. And even if things look hard, we need to remember to whom we belong to and who we worship. God will fulfill the word He has spoken.
