God of Salvation
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.” (Psalm 43:5)
Have you ever found yourself downcast or in turmoil within you? The writer of Psalm 43 had a good understanding of what that felt like. He thought that God had abandoned him because his enemies were oppressing him. He could not see any light at the end of the tunnel. He felt hopeless and he felt rejected. And despite his feelings, he ran to God for help. He poured out his complaint before the Lord and brought praise to God. And then he had a talk with his soul. His inner being was cast down but there was still hope. And he found it in the God of salvation, who saves and rescues from the grasp of the enemy. He reached for God when there was nothing else he could grab on to. And though we don’t know how his story ended, we know he found hope in God for his situation.
Our problems might look different than the Psalmist’s; our inner turmoil might be greater, but there is still hope. And we can reach out to God for help. We can pour out our hearts before Him. He is the God of salvation and He will come to our rescue.
