The Psalms are songs made up of raw, unedited, prayers, pleas and praises to God. Some come from a place of hurt and fear and desperation, while others talk about the majesty and power of God over time. In them we see the fragility of the human heart and soul, and also the victory that praise to God brings. And the Psalms show us an example of what it means to be open and sincere before the Lord. Though He is Creator God and already knows our thoughts from afar and our words before we speak them, He wants us to cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7) and to bring our requests before Him (Philippians 4:6-7). And like Psalm 62:8 states, to pour out our hearts before Him.

And today is an invitation to do just that. Bring your own psalm to the Lord. Tell Him what is on your heart and mind. Tell Him the truth. Bring any fear, disappointment, battle, thanksgiving, praise, and so on, to Him. This can be your plea for mercy and help to the God who never fails, or even a “stone of remembrance” of what God has already done in your life. Write it out if you can as a poem, or song or a letter. And remember to always bring thanks and praise. God has not changed. Our situations cannot limit Him. And He is Lord and Savior and God, and victory belongs to Him.

Trust in Him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before Him;
    God is a refuge for us. Selah
(Psalm 62:8)
