The Cry for Mercy

“To you, Lord, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy….You turned my wailing into dancing; You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy; that my heart may sing Your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise You forever.” (Psalm 30:8, 11-12)

Cry out to the Lord. This is the message that resounds from this Psalm. Cry out to the Lord when the enemy comes against you. Cry out to Him when you feel overwhelmed. Cry out to the Lord when life seems unfair and things don’t work out the way you wanted. Cry out to Him when you don’t know what to do. Cry out to the Lord with all your heart’s desires. He hears the cries of His people and He works on behalf of those who place their trust in Him. And not only that, but He doesn’t let us leave His presence the same way we came in. He gives hope to the hopeless, beauty for ashes, joy for mourning and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. He fills our hearts with joy and our minds with His peace, and He puts a new song in our mouths to praise Him.

And so, together with David the Psalmist, let us cry out to the Lord for mercy and place our trust in Him. He is the God who hears. He is the God of hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
