The Light Shines in the Darkness

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)

I’ve read this verse multiple times, and this week more than other weeks. As I meditated on it, I remembered the day I finally understood the message of the gospel and surrendered my life to the Lord. And then the many struggles and sins the Lord gave me freedom from came to mind as well. Not because of anything I deserved, but all because Jesus came and shone His light into my darkness and set me free. Darkness can come in different ways for everyone, and it can, at times, make us believe that there is no way out and no light at the end of the tunnel. But God, because of His love for us all, sent Jesus, the true light, to shine in the darkness and to bring us into His light. That same light still shines today. And so, whatever type of darkness we might find ourselves in, it is not too dark for the light of Christ. He has come to shine in the darkness and He has overcome.
