I found myself in a wandering boat at times, looking back at the trials but not seeing the grace and goodness of God that brought me out. Or looking at the problems ahead instead of at the One who can do the impossible. Or even looking at people to provide the things only Jesus can. And God is always speaking, reminding us to look up, to look to Him, and to look at what He has done. Isaiah 53 is one example in Scriptures where we are challenged to shift our focus, to lift up our eyes and to look at Jesus Christ.

3. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

4. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

5. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.

What strikes me the most from these verses is that they show us that everything we need for our lives is found in Jesus Christ - we are the ones who look in other places when the answer is and will always be Jesus. If we need saving and freedom, it is found in Him. If we need peace, it was given to us by the chastisement He endured. If we need forgiveness, He was pierced and crushed for all of our transgressions and iniquities. If we need healing, we can find it in His wounds. And His sacrifice is proof of the greatest love we could ever know or receive. And, no matter what we face, Jesus Christ has all the authority in heaven and on earth, and, He wants to show each of us what His sacrifice means for our lives and in our lives. Let us then look at what He’s done.
